Unitarian Universalist services are similar to most other churches. There are readings and hymns, often live instrumental or choral music. There is a time for people to share significant events in their lives. There is often a story for children early in the service, before they leave the sanctuary for Religious Education in the chapel. You are welcome to visit and to explore with us. Wear whatever makes you comfortable!

Dragons Among Us—Tales of Creation

“In the beginning”, the good book says. If you read it with my eyes, you interpret the words “the world was without form and void” as meaning the creation story is a blank slate meant for us to write on. In this ritual drama, we will recreate the world and tell a new creation myth woven out of the fabric of old myths from all traditions. “In the beginning, we were given a blank tablet and we have written our story on its face.”

Town Hall Meeting follows the service with a report on General Assembly 2010.

Carl Schwartz

The Gospel According to Charlie Brown

We have heard the saying, “out of the mouths of children comes wisdom,” in this case, actually the wisdom and wit of Charles Schulz, cartoon artist and sometime philosopher. Join us as we look at him and of course — Charlie Brown.

Rev. Marian Stewart

Roadside Religion

When lightning struck the 62-foot tall “Touchdown Jesus” statue and it burned to the ground in mid-June off I-75 in Monroe, Ohio, my mind raced back to all those creepy, gaudy, in-your-face public displays of religion that I’ve seen across the country. A quaint little chapel in a serene setting or even a church with a steeple in the center of town might be OK, but a 62-foot tall, chest and above, raised arms, giant blow-up version of Jesus? What was someone thinking (or believing)?

August 22

Chuck Bean

Songs I Wish I Could Sing

Sisters, Oregon Folk Music Festival’s Sunday morning service. Come and join us for Chuck’s second service of the year! His sermon earlier this year on David Whyte’s poetry was inspiring and very well received. Chuck has been with the Woodinville UU Church for quite a while, serving as board president at least once, as well as currently serving as the treasurer.

Home in the Land of Oz

Charles Dickens advised “Reflect upon your present blessings, of which every man has plenty; not on your past misfortunes, of which every man has some.” Many authors, psychologists and spiritual leaders would agree with this advice. How can following this advice change your life?
