Sunday Services

Sunday Morning Schedule
10:30am Sunday Service (See below for speakers & topics).
11:45am “Coffee Time” We invite you to remain after the service for coffee and conversation.
12:00pm “Reverberations” If you’d like to share, have questions, need further explanation, etc.

Unitarian Universalist services are similar to most other churches. There are readings and hymns, often live instrumental or choral music. There is a time for people to share significant events in their lives. There is often a story for children early in the service, before they leave the sanctuary for Religious Education in the chapel. You are welcome to visit and to explore with us. Wear whatever makes you comfortable!

Safe Haven

The idea of sanctuary holds our fears, regrets, memories and dreams. A safe haven or sanctuary can be mythical or real. We’ll challenge the tension of being estranged from our own experience.

Important congregation meeting & Town Hall follows the service.
We need a quorum to discuss the funding plan for improvements to the rental house.

Upside Down World of Mr. Zinn

Howard Zinn died last month. But his people’s history lives on. Not only did he turn the story of the victorious on its head, he lifted up the stories of the common person. There is a reason that our own publishing house, Beacon Press, published his work. We’ll look at snipits of UU history from upside down.

What We Can’t Live Without

A week before Palm Sunday, I wonder why non–native plant palm fronds are cited as tradition in religious ritual. Could it be their usefulness and essential nature to our survival? We’ll examine the threads of our own lives and find the essentials. I invite you to meditate deeply about the threads of your life, finding what is essential, and bring a representative token to use in the service.

“April” Town Hall Meeting follows the service.
Newcomer luncheon follows the service.

Articulating Our Faith

Unitarian Universalists of all kinds can be hungry for ways to articulate their UU faith to others. Sixteen Northlakers spent five Monday evenings exploring this topic together and helping each other develop the tools and language to adequately explain what our religion is all about. Come and hear about their experience. Maybe you’ll get some ideas you can use in your own conversations.

50th Anniversary brainstorming session after the service.
