Sunday Morning Services

Sunday Morning Schedule
10:00am Sunday Service (See below for speakers & topics).
11:00am “Coffee Time” We invite you to remain after the service for coffee and conversation.
11:15am “Reverberations” If you’d like to share, have questions, need further explanation, etc.

Unitarian Universalist services are similar to most other churches. There are readings and hymns, often live instrumental or choral music. There is a time for people to share significant events in their lives. There is often a story for children early in the service, before they leave the sanctuary for childcare in the chapel. You are welcome to visit and to explore with us. Wear whatever makes you comfortable!

Rev. Nayer Taheri

When Individual Becomes Community

Nayer Taheri will speak with us for the first time since her ordination last
March. In this sermon, in light of our celebration for Independence, Nayer
will share her thoughts on the struggle of others for Freedom, reflecting on
the people’s struggle in Iran.

Nayer Taheri is originally from Iran. She has a Master’s degree from Starr King School for the Ministry and was recently ordained as a Unitarian Universalist minister. She is a chaplain resident at Harborview Medical Center, a member of the steering committee of the Religious Coalition for Equality in Seattle and associate faculty member at Starr King. Nayer is looking forward to sharing her unique experiences with us and we’re thrilled to welcome her back to our pulpit.

Town Hall Meeting follows the service.

Dave Thompson

Life and Business — What's the Difference?

This is an exploration of if and how the principles that apply to home life apply to the business world. For example, are there two sets of ethics — one for home and one for business? Drawing on more than 30 years experience in the business world, Dave will examine what the difference is — or isn’t.

Dave grew up Presbyterian, took a leave from religion upon entering college, and reconnected by joining the Northlake community about 16 years ago. He’s been in the computer industry since 1977, currently an executive at Microsoft. He works with Habitat for Humanity, both here in East King County, and abroad, and is active outdoors with his wife Judy and their young adult “kids”, Brian and Caitlin. He enjoys using power tools.

Newcomer Luncheon follows the service.

Chuck Bean

Finding Your Voice

My spiritual journey in a nutshell with insights from the poetry tradition. … or … Poetry used to bore me until one day I heard a poet named David Whyte recite several poems, some his and some by other poets, and I literally felt physical movement in my chest. “…their sure hand of truth reached into the dark unmoving regions of my chest and through the soft unsuspecting entrance of my heart.”

Chuck Bean has been a member of the Woodinville UU Church for many years. He also has the excellent taste to be married to Northlake’s own Mad Shop Steward, Kathy Bean, and the good fortune to be Sarah Grant’s “other dad.”
