Northlake Worship & Services Committee
The Worship Committee is responsible for all the details of the Sunday Service, including finding and scheduling speakers and celebrants. We are dedicated to providing a variety of creative and meaningful worship experiences throughout the year.
The Worship Committee works hard to fill our Sundays with interesting, spiritual and inspiring topics and people. We regularly invite local and visiting ministers and people from our community to speak on Sunday mornings. In addition, we are fortunate to have a high level of member participation in, and commitment to, speaking at our services. Approximately half of our Sunday services include sermons given by members of our own congregation.
The Worship Committee is thus committed to the training and development of lay speakers and celebrants. We provide periodic training sessions, including videotaping of speeches and presentation critiques for those interested. The Committee works closely with first–time speakers, occasionally even scheduling a service rehearsal.
Sunday services run smoothly and efficiently with the help of dedicated members of the Worship Committee who act as Coordinators for each service. These individuals recruit speakers and celebrants, contact the speaker to discuss any needs or special requests for presentations or content on their Sunday, and obtain sermon information for our newsletter. The Coordinators and Celebrants also assist in planning the Order of Service, provide a list of selected hymns to the pianist, and confer with the Music Director or guest musicians, if there are any special music needs. It is the Coordinator’s responsibility to contact the Treasurer to arrange an honorarium check, arrive forty-five minutes early on Sunday morning to open and set up the church, to greet the speaker, select ushers, and stay to straighten up and close the church.
The Worship Committee’s goal is to provide consistent, professional, spiritual experiences for our members and guests each and every Sunday at Northlake Unitarian Universalist Church. It is a goal that we are achieving with the help of our excellent committee and congregational members!
The Northlake Worship Committee works with the minister and coordinates with other committees to produce and direct all Sunday morning and special services. Our goal for each service is to provide our members and guests with a meaningful spiritual experience.
We recruit and support visiting ministers or lay speakers from within or outside our congregation to lead services when our minister is not in the pulpit. This usually includes all Summer services. We make sure speakers and service themes address our congregational goals and concerns and that there are opportunities for member participation in worship services.
We welcome participation on the Worship Committee by anyone in the church community with good ideas and a willingness to put those ideas into practice.
We welcome suggestions about speakers and about worship topics and practices.
