Committee on Ministry (“COM”)

(Formerly Ministerial Relations)

The COM serves as a sounding board for the minister — either with new ideas, or with problems s/he may be sensing. COM members also serve as a resource for congregational members to consult about concerns or issues they are having with the minister. COM members should encourage individuals to discuss issues directly with the minister and offer to accompany individuals in doing so. The COM also helps the minister set goals for the year and make those available to the congregation. The COM may consult the congregation via survey or other means in helping the minister set these goals.

Aid the minister in carrying on an effective Ministry; act as liaison between Minister and congregation; work with Minister on continuing education; work with Finance Committee to review Ministerial contract; serve as nucleus of Ministerial Search Committee when such committee is required; act as Minister’s sounding board and advisor.

After a successful ministerial search, the search committee forms the initial COM for at least the first 6 months to help create a smooth transition.
